The Dreamed-Of Himalayan Birkin: Now, You Can Own It Too!
The Himalayan Birkin was once reserved for a select few top collectors. It was extremely rare, with prices constantly reaching new heights, becoming the ultimate symbol of luxury.
But today, owning a Himalayan Birkin is no longer just a privilege for celebrities and billionaires!
Want to know the history of this legendary bag and how you can add it to your collection? Keep reading, and we’ll reveal its secrets and show you how to easily get your hands on this dream bag!
History of Hermès Himalayan Birkin
It started in the early 90s when Hermès created a special glossy ombré crocodile leather called Natura Vert Celadon. The first Himalayan Celadon bags were made in 1994 and went until 2008.
In 2008 Hermès launched the Himalayan Birkin bag, starting with the Matte Himalayan Birkin 30.
One funny thing is that people assume the name means the skin is from the region but it’s actually because the dyeing process is so painstakingly done to make it look like the snow capped Himalaya mountains.
Each one was made with so much care and precision. Production was super limited. The Hermes Himalayan Birkin was only for top collectors.
Things changed in 2010 when Jean-Paul Gaultier showed a Himalaya Birkin on the runway and the bag became popular with both long time fans and new collectors.
The Hermès Himalayan Birkin 30 has been seen around since 2008, then the Himalayan Birkin 35 in 2009. Then the first Hermès Himalayan Birkin 25 came out in 2012.
The Craftsmanship Behind the Himalaya Birkin
What really makes the Himalayan Birkin special is the gradient color.
Himalayan crocodile leather is so rare because of its unique craftsmanship and how hard it is to find.
It’s usually made from Niloticus crocodile skin, which goes through several special fading processes. This is much more complicated than regular dyeing and helps bring out the natural gradient of the skin.
To get that signature Matte White Himalaya color, only the highest-grade skins are selected from the very beginning, making sure there are no scars.
But since crocodiles are naturally aggressive and often get scars from fighting, it’s incredibly rare to find a flawless skin. That’s what makes Himalayan crocodile leather so valuable to collectors.
On top of the leather the hardware of the Himalayan Birkin is made from platinum or white gold and in some cases diamonds.
What makes the Diamond Himalayan Birkin even more special is the addition of 251 pavé diamonds weighing 1.4 carats set into the hardware. The 18K white gold hardware, including the padlock and keys, is beautifully encrusted with diamonds.

Himalayan Birkin Price
At retail, a 25cm Himalaya Birkin bag can cost between $50,000 to $70,000 depending on the country. Larger Birkins are more expensive, the 40cm is around $120,000. But that’s just the starting point.
Since most people can’t get one directly from Hermès, the price goes up big time when it’s sold at auction and often starts at around $90,000.
In fact the Himalayan Birkin has broken multiple records at auction and often goes for several times the original retail price.
Since 2020 Himalaya Birkins without diamonds have been selling for between $100,000 to $200,000. The 30cm is around $150,000 and older ones or with some wear can go for around $100,000.
For versions with diamond-encrusted hardware, the price can soar all the way up to $380,000.
How to Buy a Himalayan Birkin
If you want to buy a Himalayan Birkin you have two options. First you can try to get one directly from Hermès but getting on their list is incredibly challenging.
For most people, the secondary market is the next best option. Always verify authenticity through trusted sources when buying from resellers or auctions.
Before Buying An Hermès Himalaya Birkin
One of the most special things about the Himalayan Birkin is the coloration. Every bag has its own one of a kind ombré. No two are the same.
The ombré usually goes from light to dark from center to sides but the contrast can vary greatly between bags. These color patterns are personal preferences and can affect how different collectors like the bag.
Another thing to consider is the symmetry of the ombré on the handles and sangles (straps). The handles often have asymmetrical color patterns but some are more even than others. The sangles can be even more varied, one side can have an ombré effect and the other side none, or both sides can be symmetrical or no color at all.
Also there’s a difference between “white” and “brown” Himalayas. “Brown” Himalayas or Gris Cendre are even rarer, only a few have been sold at auction. These bags go from gray to brown and are 20 times rarer than the classic white ones.
The Hermès Himalayan Birkin 30 is the most sought after size. Big enough for daily use but small enough for evening wear. Perfect for many collectors and a great entry point for those starting their Himalayan journey.

Why Is High-End Customization a Smarter Way to Enjoy Luxury?
✅ No Need to Buy Extra Items to Own a Himalayan Birkin
Hermès requires customers to buy large amounts of scarves, clothing, and home products before being offered the chance to purchase a Birkin. Here, all you need to do is choose the bag you truly love.
✅ Avoid Premium Prices, Focus on True Value
The price of a second-hand Himalayan Birkin can range from $250,000 to $500,000, far above the original Hermès price. With custom pieces, you can get the same quality at a much more affordable price, without sacrificing craftsmanship.
